Are you trying to plan a DIY wedding and still make it look like a professional did it? Look no further as we have a step-by-step guide on how to create the best-looking sweetheart table without the need for too many materials. All you need is a gorgeous tablecloth, a topper, and large safety pins. Read on for the detailed guide on how to transform your head table with a swag design.
For those who prefer a visual step-by-step, you can view the video below:
Materials Needed:
- Tablecloth (base color)
- Skirt Clips
- Extra-long chiffon table skirt
- Sequin Vine Tablecloth (Overlay)
- Large safety pins
Step 1: Setup Your Table
This step depends on what size and shape of table you’re going to use for your head table. In this video, we used a large table that could fit our large tablecloth that measures 90"x132".
Step 2: Add a Base
With your table set, you can now start a regular tablecloth as your base. The color of the tablecloth will be crucial because it will set the color tone of the entire table setting. For this video, we used a 90”x132” white polyester tablecloth.
Step 3: Add Table Clips
After placing the tablecloth, you need to add the skirt clips to hold onto the table skirt, which will be the next step. Place one clip at least 12” apart to create an even and sturdy hold.
Make sure to use the appropriate size for your table thickness. For this video, we used a Large Variable Lifetime 2"-3" Velcro Table Skirt Clip. We also offer them in other sizes and with no Velcro options, which you can see here.
Step 4: Add The Skirts
Once you’ve added the clips, you can now add the table skirts. Use the top part of the skirts to snap onto the Velcro for a secure fit. For this video, we added Chiffon Tulle Extra Long Table Skirts.
Chiffon skirts offer a rich dimension and a romantic feel that is perfect for events like weddings, birthday parties, or baby showers.
Step 5: Deal With the Excess
With long hanging skirts lying on the floor, evenly spread them to create a dreamy drop on the floor. Try to spread them as evenly as possible and add fluffs on the corners to create a cloud-like appearance.
Step 6: Add the Overlay
Top the setup with a table overlay of your choice. For the video above, we used a Sequin Vine Tablecloth, which is one of our favorites to create a more elegant feel.
Step 7: Create an Accent
Add a cute design by gathering a smaller section of the overlay on one side of the table, approximately halfway up. Pin this section using a large safety pin to hold it in place. This effect will enhance the table’s curvature.
Gently adjust the fabric to achieve the desired shape and fullness of the swag. Experiment with different pinning positions to create the perfect look for your wedding.
You’re done and it’s that simple! You can also add a Flower Table Runner Decor to add an accent to the table and complete the rest of your table setting, chair sets, and backdrops by adding the same colors to match the rest of the theme of your table.
